The players picked up on it and in my mind, I said, "Doh!" and rolled with it. Why is the person they knew to be the killer, really not the killer? It leads to more investigating and creativity on the fly by me.

Secretly, I love those moments when I respond to them well, as the GM.Undeadhosthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09131084242228738203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-45681545388642901752009-05-23T14:03:41.354-04:002009-05-23T14:03:41.354-04:00I agree with Gene on the Thin Man thing. From the same era would be Remington Steele as an example of a show that lost its footing once the romance issue was solved. Or even Moonlighting.Lowell Francishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02359280169506945906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-73724126247396592422009-05-23T09:31:24.516-04:002009-05-23T09:31:24.516-04:00Good post!

But I don't expect the GM to be infallible. Just so long as the correct information is sussed out shortly.

I like the bit on doppleganging. I really like what you are doing with The Larker. :)

Romance... All the campaigns I ran had a romantic element. None of the campaigns I have played in have. So I am curious.Cher Merehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10336087288319886516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-54505000957905527662009-05-22T22:14:26.211-04:002009-05-22T22:14:26.211-04:00I've already told Lowell my opinion on RPing roman...I've already told Lowell my opinion on RPing romance with a GM (I've always had male GMs). It just feels weird professing love to another guy.

My hangups aside, excellent points in handling more open minded Players.

On the issue of settled romance, the exception that proves the rule is Nick and Nora from the Thin Man films. It's not something that's ever been done as well since.

Part of the issue here is that many of us do have unrealistic attitudes about romance. In real life, we don't consider what the other person wants while we're busy trying to get what we want. That's a hard thing to reform around a game table.

Nora: Go on! See if I care! But I think it's a dirty trick to bring me all the way to NY just to make me a widow.

Nick: You wouldn't be a widow long.

Nora: You bet I wouldn't!

Nick: Not with all your money...Gene Hahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07389258008505629339noreply@blogger.com
