I'd probably go with something more abstract, but that would depend on the system. I like the magic in Qin: the Warring States which builds a structure based on the wushu and classic Chinese ideas. I'd want a little more ritualized, with a few options for some quick effects.

@Deinol: I'm glad to see that the True20 version works for some people. I imagine that system would make it easier to fix some of the messiness of this version. Plus it has some additional material on Britannia. As a Rome resource I think GMs will find different utility with these books (hence the reviews). I think other books may be stronger as a resource than Roma Imperious, but YRMV.Lowell Francishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02359280169506945906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-58810223755017275032010-10-26T17:46:54.282-04:002010-10-26T17:46:54.282-04:00I have the True20 version and it is a great resour...I have the True20 version and it is a great resource for any d20 based Rome game. If I were to run a Rome based game I'd probably mix this with the Green Ronin book and Pathfinder.Jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11286544022662495363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-51292955286092982792010-10-26T14:44:13.383-04:002010-10-26T14:44:13.383-04:00Out of curiosity, what are you hoping for from a R...Out of curiosity, what are you hoping for from a Roman magic system? The obvious direction for me is as an investigative skill. Augury was very important back then. Curses were letters sent to the gods asking that they hurt someone who had hurt the supplicant. There were the public ceremonies and secret rites to protect the blessed, and healing spells. There was also summoning and exorcism, which were very legalistic proceedings.

Or are you looking for a more fantastic and immediate magic? There were a few famous cases of that too, such as flying men and telekinesis via summoned spirits.Gene Hahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07389258008505629339noreply@blogger.com
