The p...I think Too Cool To Be Forgotten is amazing. The plot is pretty simple. The fun comes from honest observation of high school life. I kept thinking, "He's pretty nerdy, but he's so much cooler than I was." The emotions felt honest to what I felt then, and how I feel now. Lord, I knew what I needed to do back then (ask out girl I like, be charming but not dorky, etc) but I also knew I wasn't ready. I've often wished I'd had my current 'character stats' then. The make out scene had me laughing out loud.

The revelations at the end were clever but not precious. A heightened version of how we're all embarrassed by our parents, but with greater depth.

I love Whedon's Firefly and Dr Horrible stuff, but I feel he uses character arcs and dialog to obscure his weak plots and story logic. It means that the second time I sit down and watch his stuff it starts to fall apart for me. Nothing in "Safe" (religious kidnapper episode) makes sense if you think about it too long.Gene Hahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07389258008505629339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-61998053670154988762009-03-01T16:08:00.000-05:002009-03-01T16:08:00.000-05:00I remember fondly playing Villains and Vigilantes ...I remember fondly playing Villains and Vigilantes in English class and of sitting down by the river playing Bushido with you. So, yeah, we were pretty geeky.

I'll be curious to see what you think of Forgotten. As for Buffy, I'm finally making my way through the seasons in a systematic way. It is interesting to see how he develops the stories over the course of each season-- he does some things very well. he doesn't have quite the coherency of Babylon Five or Veronica Mars, but he does play pretty fair with the audience.Lowell Francishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02359280169506945906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764158821384594980.post-88732016735445215262009-03-01T00:10:00.000-05:002009-03-01T00:10:00.000-05:00Glad you liked "Too Cool To Be Forgotten". I'll me...Glad you liked "Too Cool To Be Forgotten". I'll mention that a fellow Clay alum, class of 85, wrote me in Facebook recently. He says I asked to join his DnD game, but they thought I was too odd and geeky. Even among geeks, I was too geeky. Ha!

Reading a novel similar to Forgotten, Ken Grimwood's Replay. Starts off with the same premise as Forgotten and Peggy Sue Got Married, but runs in a very different direction. At first I thought it was shallow, but it's just that the character grows up a lot during the course of the book. I'm almost halfway in. It's gotten pretty philosophical and smart.

I'm curious to read the Buffy stuff, but I never got into any Whedon before Firefly. I'll add it to my list of comics to read someday. It's a real list I carry on my phone!Gene Hahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07389258008505629339noreply@blogger.com
